ITS Team Sapuangin Wins Shell Eco Marathon 2024 Asia Pacific and Middle East Region

The ITS Team Sapuangin once again secured first place in the 2024 Shell Eco-Marathon Asia Pacific and Middle East region competition, held at the Mandalika circuit, Lombok, Indonesia, from July 2 to 6, 2024. With their latest vehicle, the Sapuangin XI EVO 3, the ITS Team Sapuangin achieved an impressive 482 km/l, making it the most fuel-efficient vehicle after surpassing its tough rivals, the Garuda UNY Eco Team (Yogyakarta State University) and the Antawirya Gentayu Team (Diponegoro University). After a challenging journey that began with a difficult technical inspection on the second day, the Sapuangin Team reclaimed first place in the Urban Concept Internal Combustion Engine category.

Furthermore, the ITS Team Sapuangin also secured first place in the regional championship, defeating fellow Indonesian representatives, the Arjuna Team (University of Indonesia) and Semar UGM (Gadjah Mada University). Initially, Sapuangin struggled at the start and fell behind Garuda UNY and Arjuna, who surged ahead. However, after the first lap, Sapuangin took the lead, followed by Garuda UNY. Meanwhile, Arjuna and Semar UGM lagged significantly behind. Sapuangin eventually emerged victorious after completing three laps. Arjuna managed to overtake Semar UGM on the straight track before the finish line after the final turn of the Mandalika International Circuit. This marks the first regional championship win for the ITS Team Sapuangin in the Shell Eco-Marathon. In the same event last year, the representatives from Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (Surabaya, East Java) finished in third place.

As the champion of the 2024 Shell Eco-Marathon Asia-Pacific and Middle East regional championship for energy-efficient car innovation, the ITS Sapuangin team is entitled to a prize from the organizers, which includes the opportunity to visit and learn about motorsports at the Ducati factory in Thailand.
